Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva 2008 – 91 Points

91 Points Smoke and leather aromas are matched by dried red fruit and spice tones. This is racy on the palate, with a fairly full body. Vanilla and caramel flavors turn darker and toastier with airing, while the fruit on this older Rioja favors cherry and currant. Cocoa, tobacco notes with a juicy length define the finish. Drink through 2024. — M.S., Wine Enthusiast, 2/1/2015.

Montevannos Reserva 2005 – 92 Points

92 Points What’s great about this wine is how it blends modernity, meaning ripeness, with traditional aromas and flavors of tobacco, earth and oak. The nose is a symphony of marzipan, tobacco and dried fruit scents, while the palate is fresh, alert and houses flavors of baked cherry, plum, vanilla and mossy earth. Pure and smooth on the finish; drink now through 2018. — Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast (5/1/2013).

Ribera de Ulver Crianza 2011 – 87 Points

87 Points Dark plum and berry aromas hit with oomph and are accented by toasty, minerally notes. This Mencía is balanced and nicely textured, with blackberry, prune and licorice flavors. Some bitterness comes up on the finish, but mostly this ends like it starts, with jammy richness and dark-fruit notes. — M.S., Wine Enthusiast, 10/2013.

Martinez Lacuesta Rosado 2014 – 87 Points

87 Points Light, bright orange. Ripe red berries and a hint of cherry pit on the nose. Lush and open-knit, offering slightly warm raspberry and cherry pit flavors and a hint of bitter orange pith. Picks up a peppery element with air and finishes with good bite and decent persistence. — Josh Raynolds (Vinous) 4/15  .

Garduño Rose Bobal 2014 – 87 Points

87 Points Pale silver-pink. High-pitched aromas of pink grapefruit, strawberry and ginger, with a subtle floral nuance in the background. Dry and tightly wound, offering zesty citrus fruit and red berry flavors and a touch of musky rhubarb. Closes on a slightly tart note, leaving bitter orange zest and white pepper notes behind. — Josh Raynolds (Vinous) 4/15.
