87 Points Dark plum and berry aromas hit with oomph and are accented by toasty, minerally notes. This Mencía is balanced and nicely textured, with blackberry, prune and licorice flavors. The winery takes its name from the bridge at the crossroads of Conde de Bertiandos in the town of Ponte de Lima – Portugal’s most ancient city. The cooperative, composed of over 2,000 local producers, is the largest contributor to the Ponte de Lima’s economy. In 1998 the cooperative received certification from APCER to produce wines that can be legally denominated as Vinhos Verdes, as part of the special administrative region. Lima is one of the 9 administrative sub-regions of the Vinho Verde region in the northeast of Portugal. It is blessed with a perfect climate with which to create varied, fruity and fresh wines..

David Morrison who oversees the winemaking insists on paying a premium for a high quality base wine. Amalia is produced for Long Wines by a winery founded in 1985 and situated in the acknowledged centre of cava production near Sant Sadurni d’Anoia. Slightly inland from the Mediterranean, beyond the distinctive peaks of the Monstserrat Massif, the vines grow on a scattering of limestone deposits and thrive in the mild climate. 87 Points Light, bright orange. Ripe red berries and a hint of cherry pit on the nose. Lush and open-knit, offering slightly warm raspberry and cherry pit flavors and a hint of bitter orange pith. 87 Points Pale silver-pink. High-pitched aromas of pink grapefruit, strawberry and ginger, with a subtle floral nuance in the background. Dry and tightly wound, offering zesty citrus fruit and red berry flavors and a touch of musky rhubarb.
